ACCOMODATIONS

Tourism fuels much of the Reno-Tahoe region’s economy. The number and variety of accommodations available for a Games is a tremendous strength for a Reno-Tahoe bid. Combining over 30,000 hotel rooms in the proposed Games core area and many thousands more around Lake Tahoe, Games accommodations far exceed the capacity the necessary benchmarks. By including the western side of the Sierra the number of existing accommodations increases to over 70,000. All types of accommodations are available, and the size of some of the well placed properties in the Games core allows for the concentration of key Games constituencies. Media, broadcast, volunteers and officials can be housed in single or adjacent properties. In addition to the high level and variety of potential accommodations, there is a good base of other tourist amenities, including multiple free-time activities of all types. It should also be noted that the air proximity to Las Vegas and the Bay Area allows Games attendees to travel to Reno in just one hour.
